KUCHING: The state government will be hosting the 4th International Energy Week (IEW) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from Jan 23-24.

The biennial event, themed ‘Energising Sustainable Transformation & Opportunities’, will be launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Jan 23.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the objectives of the event are to promote sustainable development of the energy sector in Sarawak, and to focus on the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) initiatives and recent updates which will spearhead the development of energy-intensive industries in Sarawak.

“The exhibitors include local and foreign, from Germany, Singapore and India,” he told a press conference at his ministy’s office yesterday.

Updating on Score, he said that to-date, there are 22 investment projects approved with total investment of RM33.64 billion, that are expected to generate 17,093 employment opportunities.

The two-day event includes talks, networking sessions, forum discussions and will be attended by industry players. The major sponsors are Sarawak Energy Berhad, Petronas, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Sarawak Shell, Alstom, Brooke Dockyard and Bintulu Port.

Speaking on the IEW ‘18 Conference, Awang Tengah said that it will address key issues and challenges facing the industry and explore innovative solutions in overcoming rising energy demand and minimising greenhouse gasses, and explore opportunities for new sources of energy.

The PetroleumAsia 2018 will feature the latest technological advances in exploration, production and processing by over 150 exhibitors, while the AsiaInfrastructure 2018 will focus on transport, housing and industrial capacity, energy, water/sewerage, waste management and communications infrastructure.
