MIRI: Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) in its effort to increase public awareness of the importance of keeping our rivers clean will carry out more community outreach programmes.

Its chairman Dr Murni Suhaili said it is a crucial for the people in the state to not only preserve the rivers as a source of drinking water but also ensure they are clean and the water safe for consumption.

“Rivers are precious natural assets which supply us with drinking water and use as mode of transportation, for irrigation, agriculture, water recreational purposes and many others.

“Thus, it is important that we keep our rivers clean,” he said when officiating at Miri River Cleanliness Programme 2018 in Kampung Piasau Utara here yesterday.

Dr Murni said the programme also offered a platform to foster closer ties and enhance communication between SRB and people at the grassroots level.

Also present were SRB controller Richard Tajan, assistant controller for northern region Leonard Luhat Laing, councillor Abdullah Jaini and community leader for Kampung Piasau Utara Hipni Sulong.
