Julaihi happy Sarawak takes over Rambungan, Btg Lupar bridge projects

November 7, 2018, Wednesday

MINISTER of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawai is happy to note that the Sarawak government has agreed to allocate funds to continue with the Batang Rambungan and Batang Lupar bridge projects, which have been deferred by the federal government.

He said the Sarawak government had received a letter from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government, saying that the construction of both projects had been deferred.

According to him, the Batang Rambungan bridge in Lundu was supposed to be fully funded and agreed by the
previous federal government, while Batang Lupar in Samarahan/Betong was agreed on a 50-50 initiative.

“We have received a letter from the federal government, saying those projects – the missing links in the coastal road – have been deferred, although we have appealed that the projects should proceed.

“I would like to thank the Sarawak government for the allocations to proceed with the projects,” he said.

Julaihi added that the Sarawak government is still discussing with the federal government on the Batang Igan bridge project, which was also supposed to be fully funded and agreed
upon by the previous federal government.

Julaihi, who is Sebuyau assemblyman, told reporters this after attending the afternoon session of the DUN sitting yesterday.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also Finance Minister, when tabling the State Budget 2019, said Sarawak would also build four more bridges, including those over Batang Rambungan and Batang Lupar.

The other two bridges are Muara Lassa in Mukah and Bintulu-Jepak in Kuala Kemena, Bintulu — all are fully funded by Sarawak.

The other bridges fully funded by the Sarawak government are those in Saribas, Batang Rajang and Batang Paloh.

Julaihi said the construction of the coastal road and second trunk road is still in the pre-qualification tender stage.
