CM: S’wak govt will continue to develop infrastructure from Bako to Buntal

KUCHING: Residents of Kampung Bako can now enjoy direct land access with the completion of Bako Bridge.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who officiated the 280-metre long two-lane single carriageway concrete bridge here today, said the construction of this project was initiated by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

“The late Tok Nan had approved for the construction of Bako Bridge with an allocation of RM45 million.

“We are continuing his efforts to provide infrastructure development for the benefit of the people and the Bako Bridge is one of our efforts to open up development opportunities,” he said when officiating the bridge.

He emphasised that the Sarawak government will continue to develop infrastructure from Bako to Buntal in Santubong.

“In view of this, I’ve decided to allocate another RM85 million to construct access road from Bako to Buntal that also includes a Buntal Bridge,” he announced.

The construction of Bako Bridge and access road to Kampung Bako was fully funded by the Sarawak Government with a contract sum of approximately RM41.3 million.

The scope of the project includes the construction of a 280m long two-lane single carriageway concrete bridge over Bako River, 3.5km long two-lane single carriageway road connecting Kampung Bako to the existing Jalan Kampung Bako and other associated works such as drainages, road furniture and utilities associated.

Construction of the project commenced on March 3, 2016 and was certified for practical completion on Jan 31 this year.

Also present were Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Santubong MP Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Hipni.
