KUCHING: Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) has installed lightings at the Jalan Sungai Awik junction to Bintangor at the Pan Borneo Highway near Saratok and put up new signage following complaints by motorists about the confusing signage and absence of street lights which they believed were the cause of two recent major accidents.

A road diversion to facilitate construction at Saratok junction was opened on April 17.

Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How who is also a Special officer to Works Minister Baru Bian thanked Pan Borneo Highway project delivery partner Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) for their quick response.

“Thanks to the hard working director Ng Chin Beng, project manager for LBU Package 6 Sungai Awik to Bintangor Interchange Suhaili Md Salleh and their team members for the instant response to public complaints and also upon the recent opening of road diversion to facilitate Saratok junction road construction.

“The team immediately carried out improvement on traffic management at the junction including adding and stationing 24-hour flagman, placing robotic flagman, more warning and directional signboards, painting of yellow line and ‘Beri Laluan’ sign, lighting at both ends among others,” said the Sarawak PKR vice chairman.

He added that Saratok MP and Krian assemblyman Ali Biju is also keeping watch over the traffic flow at the junction.

“There had been a few bad accidents at this stretch of the road, after YB Ali brought up the matter the LBU team quickly acted to improve traffic management.”

See hoped motorists were able to drive safely and comfortably after the completion of the road diversion and installation of new signage.
